The Best Short Game Training Aids 2022
Last updated: June 2022
One of the best ways for recreational golfers to improve their score is to improve their short game.
Saving shots around the green is where you can turn bogeys into pars, and pars into birdies. However, it’s not always easy to practice your wedges and chips – with most range sessions rightly dedicated to working on the driver and fairways woods.
If you struggle to find the time to practice your chipping and pitching at a practice area, then a short game training aid you can use at home can make a real difference to your game.
We all know that it is essential to practice chipping to help develop that all-important touch and feel around the greens, so we’ve identified the best short game training aids below to help you become a more consistent chipper.

TUPP GOLF CHIP FIX CHIPPING IMPACT TRAINER
The Chip Fix chipping impact trainer by Tupp Golf helps you take control of your short game by establishing the proper attack angle around the greens.
The Chip Fix is the first short game trainer that is designed to focused on the angle of attack - which is important to build consistency around your chipping.
It can be used at home or in the garden and comes with two plastic golf balls included so you can work on delivering the clubface at the right impact angle safely.
The Chip Fix is great for helping you strike your chips more consistently and become more confident around the greens.
FLYT CHIPPING SLEEVE
Although the FLYT Sleeve is designed to help golfers with all types of swing, it is particularly useful for improving control in your chipping swing.
The sleeve can be used at home, in the garden, on the range or on the course and was designed to give the wearer the necessary feedback to reduce over-rotation in the arms and hands - which creates more consistency in ball-striking and trajectory.
When using the sleeve for chipping and pitching practice, its best worn on the trail arm (right arm for right-handed players) to promote the straight arm technique that quietens the hands and arms. This increases the width of the swing and maximises the bounce of the clubhead to get a shallow impact every time.
The FLYT Sleeve can also be worn for full swings (best worn on the lead arm) and even to practice your putting technique (wear on either arm).
CHIPPO GOLF GAME
The best practice you can have is a session which you enjoy, and the Chippo Golf Game is great for having fun with your friends in your garden, on the park or even at the beach.
It is based on the popular US lawn game cornhole, which involves throwing bean bags at an angled board. With Chippo, you chip plastic golf balls at the board and score points when you get them in the holes.
It's as simple as that, but can get very competitive when played amongst friends. It can also be used as a sole practice aid, helping you perfect your short game aim and ball striking.
ORANGE WHIP WEDGE
The Orange Whip is one of the most popular golf training aids currently on the market, and is available in different sizes to help golfers with their driver, irons and, in this case, wedge shots.
The Orange Whip Wedge will help you regulate the tempo and rhythm of your chipping swing, improving your ability to swing the club and impact the ball with consistency.
The wedge combines the Orange Whip counterweighted flexible shaft system with a Stan Utley inspired wedge head to help you maximise your short game around the greens and lower your scores.
